There was no racing in 2009 due to rain.
Saturday the 28th February turned out to be a very wet day and unfortunately the South Canterbury Finance 2009 Trolley Derby was cancelled.
96 drivers had registered to compete in 78 trolleys.

After all the efforts of the drivers and supporters to get their trolleys ready for Derby Day, a replacement day of racing was organised in Marsden Valley on Sunday 5 April 2009. At 30 second intervals a single trolley made a run down Marsden Valley Road and raced gainst the clock to reach the finish line approximately 1.6km from the top.
